Assess your dance level: beginner, intermediate, or advanced?

In short
  • You keep the beat without counting along.
  • You also dance with partners you do not know.
  • You can save a move if it goes wrong.

Beginner or professional? An honest assessment is difficult for many, yet it determines whether your next course will be fun or frustrating.

Why years don't mean a thing

Someone who dances once a month for ten years is often behind someone with one intense year. What matters is how many different partners and situations you have experienced, not the duration.

Practicing solo

Practicing solo strengthens technique: weight changes, posture, and rhythm can be trained on your own.

The rest happens in the course: connection, leading, and the ability to save mistakes.

udansa tip

Unsure where you stand? Ask for a trial lesson in a course at your assumed level, the instructor will usually place you accurately in five minutes.

What helps with level differences

The more advanced dancer adapts, not the other way around. Whoever dances better performs simpler figures, then the dance works immediately. Whoever pulls the weaker dancer ruins the evening for both.
