How to master your start without pressure
Moving by yourself in your living room requires a bit of courage at first, but it offers you the perfect, protected space for your first attempts. Streetdance is not about looking perfect from the first second, but about developing a feel for the rhythm. Many beginners make the mistake of starting directly with complex choreographies from music videos and giving up in frustration. The key to success lies in isolating the movement patterns and getting to know your own body in a completely new way. If you have answered the question which dance style suits me with Hip Hop, it is best to start with the music.
The pulse of the music as a foundation
Every Hip Hop track is based on a constant beat that you have to internalize physically. Before you move your feet, you should learn to feel the beat with your upper body. This rhythmic swaying is the absolute foundation for every streetdance move at home. Let the music play and try to emphasize the heavy beats, usually on counts one and three, by slightly bending your knees and relaxing your upper body. Only when this swaying happens automatically do the actual steps come into play.
