Absence and your contract are two different things
If you don’t attend classes for several weeks, the agreed service initially remains in place: the dance school continues to offer the course. With an ongoing contract, your fee does not necessarily pay for each class you actually attend individually. It may cover access to the agreed offering over a longer period. That’s why an open spot in your calendar doesn’t mean there’s an open spot on your bill.
Putting your dance school contract on hold requires a basis in the contract or an additional agreement. An existing pause clause may specify reasons, minimum duration, notice periods and how often a pause is allowed. If there is no such clause, the dance school may offer a time-limited arrangement as a gesture of goodwill. But that does not create a general entitlement for all participants.
In Germany, the general rule is that personal circumstances preventing you from attending do not automatically pause your fees. Further rights in the case of a prolonged illness are a separate legal matter. Different rules may apply outside Germany. This is about an agreed interruption, not ending the contract.
A different payment model is a single group class booked without a subscription. Its logic cannot be applied to an ongoing course contract.
