A public ball doesn't follow a single format
If you want to attend a public ball in Augsburg, the word public initially tells you something about access: the evening is not intended exclusively for a personally invited group. An admission ticket, registration or other stated conditions may still be required. Public does not mean free or accessible at all times.
The term ball describes a festive setting with a connection to dance, but it does not define how central dancing is. An evening may be mainly for guests to dance. It may also combine dinner, hosting and performances, with dancing in between. What matters is the role the audience plays in the program.
The history of Augsburg also shows how a hall can serve different purposes: Kurhaus Göggingen, which opened in 1886, was designed as a winter garden, dance hall and theater, and was already being used for carnival balls in its early years. This does not tell us what is on the Parktheater's program today. But it does explain why a festive venue alone does not promise an evening of dancing from start to finish.
Other formats are covered in the overview of dance events in Augsburg. This page is about what to expect from a public ball, not special occasions or current event dates.
