Your Goal Needs to Reach the Right Person
If you want to become a Tanzmariechen in a club, your goal needs to reach the people responsible for training and assigning roles. Applying for a solo dance role in the guard is not always a formal process with an application form and deadline. It can start with a personal conversation. A good way to begin is: “I’d like to work toward a solo role in the future. Who makes the decisions about role assignments in our club?” This lets you state your goal and clarify the decision-making process at the same time.
The coaching team can assess your progress. The dance director may also be responsible for the performance program. A board member may be involved if assigning roles affects organizational decisions. There is no single person responsible for this in every carnival club. A coach may recommend you based on your dancing without being able to promise you a new role on their own.
Present your goal as interest in taking on a role, not as a demand to replace a current soloist. That way, the conversation stays focused on your ambitions and does not become a comparison between people. If you don’t have a club contact yet, the guide to finding a guard dance club can help. However, finding a group does not mean that a solo position is available.
