A search area is not yet a shared meeting place
When looking for dance partners in Düsseldorf and the surrounding area, someone's place of residence initially tells you only where they live. It does not tell you where that person will set off from before dancing. Work, other commitments, or a visit they were already planning can make a meeting place accessible that would be inconvenient from home. Conversely, a short distance may not work well if the return trip is not possible at the time available.
So distinguish between search area, starting points, and dance venue. The search area determines which contacts you include. The starting points determine the routes. Only a shared dance venue brings the two together. The geographic midpoint is not a reliable benchmark: it may be neither easy to reach nor offer a suitable place to dance.
The format also changes the calculation. A longer journey there takes up a larger share of your available time for a short dance visit than for a compactly structured intensive dance course. That does not automatically make longer journeys worthwhile, but it explains why people have different personal limits. For a partner dance course without a romantic relationship, it also matters that both of you can make the same class time. A large radius does not replace this shared opportunity to meet. This does not mean there is a specific number of kilometers for Düsseldorf: your search area can be unevenly shaped if some directions are easier for you to reach than others.
