Style families organize preferences, not people
Tango Argentino, Salsa, Bachata, Kizomba, Lindy Hop, Forró, Samba de Gafieira, contemporary dance, as well as ballroom and Latin dances are documented in Freiburg im Breisgau. For your initial narrowing down, they can be grouped into improvised social partner dances, ballroom and Latin dances, and contemporary dance. This classification is a guide, not a rigid boundary.
In social partner dances, the sequence, pauses, and musical accents often emerge through interaction. Ballroom and Latin dances also leave room for individual choices, but they come with clearly defined dance forms and characteristic movement principles. The look at Slowfox beyond the show shows how much a show image can change this perception. Contemporary dance works with weight, dynamics, and space, among other things; it can be improvised or choreographed, and can also be danced in contact.
A preference alone is therefore not enough to decide. There is room for free expression in partner dances, and clear forms in contemporary dance too. Only the combination of your preferences makes one direction seem plausible. Once that direction is clear, the choice between Forró and Kizomba, for example, becomes part of the more detailed selection. Here, you are consciously staying with the family instead of already weighing individual neighboring dances against each other.
