Frankfurt am Main brings performance and participation together
If you want to go dancing in Frankfurt am Main, first consider whether the evening is meant for watching or taking part. This is especially useful here because you can do both: Bockenheimer Depot is the resident venue of Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company, which also hosts dance parties there for everyone. So the name of the venue alone doesn’t tell you what kind of evening to expect.
On stage, the company presents contemporary dance and works by William Forsythe. Under the direction of Ioannis Mandafounis, the choreography for each performance is created anew live through the dancers’ improvisation. This is a different experience from a social dance, where guests dance themselves. Three questions can help you decide: Is participation expected? Is there a program or a performance? Would you like to spend the evening actively on the dance floor or sit in the audience instead?
The Mousonturm artists’ house is also one of Frankfurt’s venues for independent performing arts and dance. Check the announcement for each specific event rather than assuming you know what to expect from the venue alone. That way, you won’t confuse a performance evening with an open dance event.
