A perfectly balanced room often determines whether guests stay until the end or leave early. With the right tuning, you create a dense atmosphere on the dance floor, while relaxed conversations remain possible at the edges.

Place the main speakers on stands so that they are above the heads of the dancers. Then, tilt the speakers slightly downwards to direct the sound specifically onto the dance floor and minimize unwanted reflections on the walls.
Use a calibrated decibel meter or a precise smartphone app directly in the center of the dance floor. Measure the background noise and adjust the sound system during the first soundcheck so that the peak levels do not exceed 80 decibels when the room is empty.
On the mixing console, primarily correct the mids and highs, as these frequencies cause human hearing to fatigue the fastest. A slightly lowered high-frequency range ensures that the music feels pleasantly soft, even at higher volumes.
As the room fills up, the dancers' bodies absorb the sound. Increase the volume in small, imperceptible steps until you reach a constant level of about 85 decibels on the crowded dance floor.
Regularly leave your DJ booth and walk completely around the dance floor as well as into the bar area. This is the only way you can hear for yourself whether the music in the communication zones is quiet enough for your guests to chat in a relaxed manner.

A guideline for a healthy and atmospheric dance floor is 85 to a maximum of 90 decibels. This level makes the energy of the music tangibly felt, without damaging the hearing of dancers who stay for several hours.
An empty room reflects sound much more strongly, which makes the music seem shrill and unpleasantly loud. As soon as the hall fills with people, their bodies and clothing absorb the sound waves, which is why the level must be increased gradually.
The speakers should be placed on stands high enough so that the tweeters are positioned slightly above the heads of the standing audience. Tilt the speakers slightly downwards directly towards the center of the dance floor to acoustically relieve the peripheral areas.
