Why the fear of going alone is unfounded
The idea of crossing the threshold of a dance school without a partner gives many people a sinking feeling in their stomach. It is the fear of the unknown, the worry of being the only person without a connection, or the apprehension of embarrassing yourself in front of others. This fear of going to a dance class alone is completely normal, but it is almost always based on unfounded myths. In reality, dance schools are social places that are specifically designed to connect people with one another.
Anyone who wants to find a dance class for beginners will quickly realize that a large portion of the participants are in a very similar situation. Many sign up solo on purpose to make new contacts or to work specifically on their own body awareness. The embarrassment of showing up alone usually disappears within the first few minutes, as soon as the music starts and everyone's eyes are focused on their own feet.
